Mitigating PIM in 5G Wireless Networks

Passive Intermodulation (PIM) is a growing concern among mobile network operators looking to maximize network capacity, data rate, reliability, and 5G Return on Investment (ROI), while minimizing OPEX. Identifying and mitigating passive intermodulation poses a significant challenge. With the addition of new frequency bands, the probability of getting a third-order intermod falling in your uplink increases dramatically. With heightened build-out and densification activity this increases the risk of new PIM sources. Exploring Challenges, prevention strategies, identification and removal solutions.

WEBINAR: Leveraging Emerging Beamspace Processing in Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICS) for State-of-the-Art RF Photonic Imaging Systems

The move to higher frequencies and higher bandwidths in 5G communications is putting a lot of stress on the ability of the corresponding RF components required to implement the advanced techniques. The field of radio-frequency-photonics (RF photonics) may offer an opportunity to support the desired implementations of highly advanced network topologies not only in the near-term, but long into the future with wide frequency range and large bandwidth abilities that may have previously been considered as unattainable using solely RF technologies. PSI specializes in leveraging optics and photonics for analog RF processing. Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) can be leveraged to reduce the size, weight and cost of implementing RF Photonic techniques. Exploring recent progress on beamspace processing PICs in the context of RF Photonic imaging systems.

WEBINAR: Emerging mmWave GaN Technology for Future 5G/6G Opportunities and Challenges

Millimeter-wave 5G and 6G networks are emerging to support low-latency and high data rate mobile (e.g., up to 10 Gbps with ~10x lower latency than 4G LTE) and backhaul communications (e.g., 20 - 100 Gbps). Realizing high-performance millimeter-wave communication systems with both spectral and power efficiency will require advancing millimeter-wave transistor technologies with higher linearity and efficiency at 5G and 6G bands than the current state-of-the-art transistor technologies. In this talk, we will overview the challenges and recent advancements of millimeter-wave GaN transistor technologies.

Exploring a wide range of 6G topics, particularly the NextG Alliance 6G Vision, which includes six audacious goals, perspectives on societal and economic needs, 6G use cases, and 6G technologies. Addressing standards timelines and key considerations for 3GPP as well as the US National Spectrum Strategy (NSS) and recent developments from WRC-23. Discussing the committment to building a robust coalition of industry, academia, and government (known as public-private partnerships or PPPs) to advance a 6G vision for the next decade. Highlighting various PPP initiatives such as NSF Resilient and Intelligent 6G Systems (RINGS), NSF PAWR, NSF Spectrum-X program, and the recent NTIA’s NOFO-2 funding opportunity for Open RAN. These initiatives aim to accelerate research in areas with significant potential impact on emerging Next Generation (NextG) wireless and mobile communication. Also, briefly explaining academic collaborations with Nokia and NGA’s partnerships with regional alliances like Europe’s 6G-IA, Japan’s 6G XGMF, Korea’s 6G Forum, and Bharat 6G.
